Cross-El Software Solutions was started on November 1, 1990. Its original mission was to provide professional software services and consulting.

During one of the consulting contracts, a product was proposed to act as a secure front end to a specific application offered by a large industrial products company. This product was the genesis of Cross-El Software Solutions flagship product BOSS™.

BOSS™ acts as an authentication and authorization server for large corporations who need to have their computing resources secured. About the name of Cross-El Software Solutions:

The name Cross-El comes from a registered cattle brand that was used on the Cross-Ell Ranch in West Texas. Each ranch would register their unique brand so that the cattle belonging to a  specific ranch could be identified. The Cross-Ell ranch brand has been registered since the 1800's. The father of the founder of Cross-El Software Solutions grew up on this ranch. The company   was named after the ranch in honor of the founder's father who had died of cancer a year before the company was founded.
